What is Youtube? Competition or a platform for work?

I have been trying to research who is Brainents competiton and who has similar software or features that we are competing with:

Youtube!

As of February 2011, YouTube has 490 million unique users worldwide per month, who rack up an estimated 92 billion page views each month. We spend around 2.9 billion hours on YouTube in a month — over 325,000 years. And those stats are just for the main YouTube website — they don’t incorporate embedded videos or video watched on mobile devices.

Is youtube the competition or a partner? You can link brainient and youtube together easily as you can use youtube links to add your interactive media over the top which makes youtube the competition in that part as why would you buy a software that can only do what youtube does for free. But Brainient has the feature of adding animated interactive links and more professional looking outcome. Youtube is a vastly used website. Its embeded and can be linked into any website or blog. This is why I think Brainient can get alot of work from. As you can take the videos that can be easily uploaded from youtube and create your interactive links and use that on youtube, where most people who watch this video will be seeing the work.

Here is an image of Youtube's homepage as it stands at the moment. The big Listerrine advert is an interactive link. This is a great example of the vast amount of companies, brands and customers youtube has so I really feel Brainient can stand out and get a wide range of different clients.

How we Plan to Sell!

Here is a list of Links and Interactive things we plan to advertise and Why we have chosen them:

Interviews- We plan to have links to interviews for each character. Its similar to my test I did using the software with the actors name coming up with links if you clicked on them. The idea of the interviews, is that each actor talks about his or her role within the series. This gives people the chances to really get an idea of what the story is about and some background to the characters.

Artwork and Images- Everyone likes to see images of the actors during takes or the artwork that was used to create the ideas and build the show around. It gives people an insight into the background of the show and brings that bit of work that is rarely advertise. This would appeal to people who are into art or VFX that would like to see who has worked on it and how it was made.

Making or behind the scenes of the Tv show - Again this is appealing to the people interested in the industry or to see the background of the show and its making. We have videos that show the making of the tv show. There is videos of behind the scenes and shows the actors learning sword movements and giving their views on set.

Other Trailers- Using HBO as an example, we plan to have links to other shows on the channel. This will get viewers watching other Tv shows or at least advertising to them other shows that are similar to the show they are viewing.

Show Website- We will link the homepage of the tv show as well as HBO's website.

Actors/Actresses IMDB pages- As for having the interviews we plan to advertise the actors and actress by giving links to their IMBD, this will appeal to admirers of stars, as well as people who want to see what else they might of been in.

Who Does this Appeal to?

I have researched into Trailers/ Previews, the crazy thing I found annually 10 billion videos are watched world wide annually. Trailers and Previews are 3rd in this category, behind news and user created video.

Different trailers appeal to different people, the films themselves will bring in the audience as there is a trailer for all ages of people and the chances of someone watching a trailer is very high, so this is a great way that I feel Brainent can get into. Theres many Tv channels and film production companies that would want to use this software to link all thier videos together and start to try get some of the products started.

Game of Thrones is a bran new Tv series for HBO. Its based a book series by George R. R. Martin.

Storyline

Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue is pervasive. The dominant families are the Houses Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as Hand of the King, or highest official. Secretly warned that the previous Hand was assassinated, Eddard accepts in order to investigate further. Meanwhile the Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take power. Across the sea, the last members of the previous and deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also scheming to regain the throne. The friction between these clans, and with the remaining great Houses Greyjoy, Tully, Arryn, and Tyrell, leads to full-scale war. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest North. Amidst war and the political confusion, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the icy horrors beyond.

Our Idea!

After much research and talks! I got the group together to finalize a concept we want to build on and we have decided to base our work around the idea of trailers.

What I mean by this is that we plan to use trailers as our selling point and our video to overlay our interactive messages on.  Tv and Film Trailers are some of the most watched videos on youtube. Apple has its own section just for trailers of up and coming films.

When a trailer comes out for a Tv show or Film there is loads of interviews, artwork, indents, groups/ forums and games that also advertise the show or film. What we plan to do is bring all these together by having links and indents showing the list above.

We believe this is a great way to use Brainiant as whole Tv channels can link all their shows together. Our example is HBO's Game of Thrones. We have found interviews with all the characters that explain their role in the Tv show.  Another advantage is that using HBO as a example, they can advertise their other shows to get viewers to watch more of their shows (Spartacus: Blood and Sand).

Concepts!

Idea brainstorming!

- My firSt idea was to take the idea of tutorials forward. We could sell the product through tutorials and guidance. When I personally look at a software I look to see if there's alot of training out there to get me started. Also it gives us the chance to advertise all the aspects ore the software and what's it's capabilities are.

- An idea more focusing on who we are going to aim for was an idea for using showreels as An example. We could advertise showreels with interactive links to blogs, works And wed sites about this person. Also maybe links that would send you to other people's showreels that are in the same sort of work. This would interest industry professionals from all different sort of media background. Anyone that needs a video based portfolio would be interested in adding more advertisement and interest to their site.

- Company branding, this is an idea I feel could get very tricking and hard to show well if not done correctly. The plus sides are that you can show how a company could advertise the products and sites. But I feel that its all dependant on the company and we might not be able to get all the aspects of the software across.

How to Sell the Product

My first thoughts about selling this software was how does some other companies sell their?

Here is a list of points and that were used by a few of the software developers I researched:

                - Tutorials. Nearly all the selling points of companies I looked at, they always Offered some sort of basic level tutorials. This tells the buyer that they will get the basic knowledge to be able to start generating Nd developing their ideas using the software.

                - software upgrades. Again to get the buyer interested, giving them the opportunity of future software updates. This tells the buyer that they will get to keep update to date with the latest technology and features without having to pay extra.

                - multiple users, a point that kept being raised was multiple users and networking. So I think it will be good to be able to say how much it would be to get multiple users available.

                - selling additional software. The software we are trying to sell has to have animations from external software, mainly flash. So maybe offering. Dal on adobe collection will increase the chance of sales.

                - free trials. For this project I am using a free trial. This great chance to test the soft are at no cost, so again to offer this I feel is something that is a must and will be advertise the software.

What is Brainient?

Now knowing the project and finding out we are branding, selling and advertising a product. I thought it would be a good idea for a first bit of research and get to know the software!

Brainient, is a interactive advertising software. This means you can have interactive links over your video. An image below shows a quick example of the software.

As you can see the image on the right shows that they have used the software to advertise the product and gives additional information of the product and company.

The software it self seems fairly simple: Below is a quick example I made within about 5 mins. This gave the names of the actors and had links on their names leading the viewer to their personal blogs.

I use my own blog as an example.

(Above) I took my youtube link then clicked on edit in BrainStudio, now I can add the interactive elements I want over-layed on the video.

I now have options where I can use to ad and import things I want to add. For this test I just want to add text that has a interactive link when clicked on.

Here I have added the names over the people in the shots. They have been timed to disappear when the actor is off shot and someone new is there.

Adding the link was simple. Now when I click on my name it will take me to my blog.

This was a quick try at getting an idea of using the software and kind of things it can be good for.

Me and the group are meeting Tuesday where we plan to set some tasks and deadlines.
